Oh the stories we have heard! Memory foam mattress horror stories, mattress retailers and their deception, mattresses that aren’t what they claim to be, and the always dreadful, “We don’t like our mattress and can’t get our money back.” Unfortunately we have heard it all, but we are glad to be able to help people when they come to us.
I was reminded of this topic when I came across a blog entitled Rhymes with Cheepy’s about a person’s nightmarish saga of buying a mattress from a large retailer whose name rhymes with “Cheepy’s.” If this story was in a sitcom, it would be funny, but it’s not funny when you are talking about wasting someone’s time and money.
One of the most heartbreaking stories that we hear about is from people who buy a mattress from a retailer with a store credit or “comfort” guarantee (same thing as a store credit) and then find out that the mattress they brought home isn’t right for them. Without a true money-back guarantee people are stuck choosing a different mattress from the same store. If you can’t find one that you like, you can be out a lot of money and still not have a mattress that works for you. So how do you prevent this problem?
Only buy a memory foam mattress (or any mattress) from a retailer that lets you try it for an extended period (at least 180 days) in your own home and will give you your money back if it doesn’t work for you. Read the fine print and don’t go for a store credit or comfort guarantee.
At Healthy Foundations, we want you to know about the mattress choices you have. Although we sell memory foam, we also have buyer’s guides for air beds and natural latex mattresses.
