Comparison of Tempur-Pedic ® And Other Memory Foams

We are often asked how the less expensive memory foams stack up to Tempur-Pedic ® foams. This is a very difficult question for us to answer, especially given the proliferation of memory foams over the last few years. As Tempur-Pedic ® sales have exploded, we have seen that other mattress and mattress bedding producers have rushed to bring their own memory foam products to market. It is getting so when we go to trade shows, all the new bedding products seem to feature some sort of memory foam layer.

So how can you decide which memory foam products have the quality and feel you are looking for? Well, we understand that it is easy to be seduced by some of the lower costs memory foam bed and toppers you see out there these days. But in our experience, the lower costs memory foams just don't have the quality and feel of the more expensive products like the toppers and The Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses we offer or those of Tempur-Pedic ®. The lower costs mattresses and toppers either use lower density memory foam and other foams in their construction or they often feature foam imported from Asia that has may well be compressed at high pressure (which can cause problems with the integrity and performance of the foam) and stored for extended periods of time (which can cause compression issues).

Also, some manufacturers just don't have the quality control that we demand - and we've heard horror stories about foam manufacturing. Things like manufacturers putting inexpensive fillers into a foam to save money rather than the more expensive materials used in making a true memory foam.

If the foam is less expensive because it is lower density, then in our experience it just doesn't have the same pressure relief characteristics or conforming feel as the higher density, more expensive memory foams that we feel comfortable carrying.

So the bottom line? We put a lot of effort into making sure that the topper pads and our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses we carry have the kind of quality of foam we demand and will perform as you expect. We would also vouch for the quality of Tempur-Pedic ® foams - they are expensive but do have a track record for quality and performance.

This summer, we stopped selling memory foam mattresses due to the patent law suit filed by Tempur-Pedic. To my surprise, the suit was dismissed by Tempur-Pedic at the end of October.

What to do now? I decided to try to make lemonade out of these lemons.
