If you are looking for a memory foam mattress, it is likely that you are doing your homework, learning about memory foam, shopping for quality memory foam, and even price shopping. While you are doing that, you may be briefly thinking about the foundation for your memory foam mattress. What used to be called a “box spring” is now a foundation. It is the base that your mattress sits on. Box springs, which actually have springs in them, have been replaced with what is now known as a “foundation.” Foundations are generally made of wood and fabric and give a firm, supportive foundation for the memory foam mattress.
Foundations last much longer than mattresses do. We encourage people to use their existing foundation if it is firm, supportive, and in good condition. This saves money and the environment since reusing a foundation means it doesn’t end up in the landfill. To see if your foundation can still be used with your new memory foam mattress, check out this FAQ – http://www.healthyfoundations.com/mattress_faqs.html#g12
If you don’t have a foundation or need a new foundation, here is an FAQ about purchasing one – http://www.healthyfoundations.com/mattress_faqs.html#g13
Please note that Healthy Foundations does not force you to use a new foundation with our mattress. Not all companies do this and many require you to purchase a foundation from them to validate the warranty. Please check with the manufacturer of your memory foam mattress before you assume you can use your current foundation without voiding the warranty.
