Memory Foam Mattresses: Do Memory Foam Mattresses Really Have an Odor?

Time for a new mattress?  Maybe you’re thinking about a memory foam mattress but you have some questions.  Maybe you’ve heard that memory foam mattresses have an odor and you want to find out if that is true.  Do memory foam mattresses have an odor?  If so, does it go away after a while?

This is a very common question about memory foam mattresses.  Do they really smell?  If so, how do you get rid of the smell?

All memory foam mattresses have at least some odor at first. The leading memory foam mattress does have what many people consider to be a strong odor. Our memory foam mattress, the Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress, has an initial odor most people would consider to be mild. To allow this odor to dissipate, place the mattress in a well ventilated room for about two to three days. Using a ceiling fan in a room with cracked windows should be all you need to do.

What I find to be interesting about the whole odor issue is that many new items have an initial odor associated with them.  Why doesn’t anyone complain about that “new car smell?”

At Healthy Foundations, we want you to be as informed about your mattress choices as possible.  Although we sell memory foam, in addition to our Guide to Memory Foam, we also offer guides to air beds and all natural latex mattresses.
