I often read comparisons of memory foam mattress and natural latex mattresses. Everyone wants to know which is better – memory foam mattresses or latex mattresses? That’s like asking, “Which is better, chocolate ice cream or strawberry ice cream?” Both are great and the choice can’t be made by anyone but you. The best mattress for you depends on your personal preference and your own needs.
A memory foam mattress is temperature sensitive. This means that it uses your body’s heat to mold to the curves and contours of your body. This reduces uncomfortable pressure points and the need to constantly toss and turn to get comfortable. Once you do roll over, the memory foam “remembers” its original shape and once you are in your new position gently molds to your new sleeping position. It is both comfortable and durable.
A natural latex mattress is 100% natural and is completely botanically derived. It is naturally anti-microbial, dust mite free, and resists mold and mildew. This makes it ideal for those with allergies and asthma or those who simply want a chemical free sleep environment. Beware of imitators though – Up to 80% of latex mattress are not 100% natural latex, but just use the term “natural” because there is some natural latex in the product. Although those who sell synthetic latex will claim that it is just as good as 100% all natural latex, this is simply not true. Synthetic latex does not have all the qualities of 100% natural latex and is not as durable. The durability of 100% natural latex makes it a cost-effective choice in the long haul.
Our Mattress Buyer’s Guide gives some good information about these two types of mattresses, but the bottom line is that to find out whether a memory foam mattress or natural latex mattress is right for you, you need to try it in your own home for an extended period. Buy only from a retailer that provides a money-back guarantee and allows you to try your new mattress in your own home for at least 180 days.
