Comparing the Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress to the Casper Mattress

Some people have asked us to compare and contrast our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress with the new start-up foam mattress made by Casper.

Our mattress is a top-rated memory foam mattress. The Casper mattress has some memory foam, but it actually what is commonly known as a “hybrid,” meaning it has one type of foam combined with another type of foam.  In the case of Casper’s mattress, the top layer of the mattress is synthetic latex (as opposed to 100% all natural latex, which is more desirable) and the second layer is memory foam.

Casper is a start-up company that has only been selling mattresses since 2014.  They have millions of start-up money at their disposal and have used it to advertise their mattress heavily, thus making a lot of sales in a short amount of time.

What is interesting is that Casper claims to make “one perfect mattress for everyone,” but yet changed the design of their mattress in late-March 2016.  They added a transition layer below the memory foam layer.  If Casper’s mattress was “one perfect mattress for everyone,” why did they need to change the design?  So which one is really “one perfect mattress for everyone,” their original design or the current one?  (They changed their design because their return rate was too high so they made the mattress softer.  The “one perfect mattress for everyone” is just marketing hype.  No mattress is right for everyone.)

At Healthy Foundations, we understand that no mattress works for everyone.  That is why we offer a 365-day money-back trial on our memory foam mattress, just to make sure it works for you over time.  That is putting your “money where your mouth is,” so to speak.  Casper’s money-back trial is only 100 days, less than one-third of Healthy Foundations’ trial.

So here are a few more of the differences between the Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress and the Casper mattress:

The Casper mattress only uses 1.5 inches of memory foam.  The Healthy Foundations Mattress uses 4 inches of high quality memory foam, 2 inches of 4-lb memory foam on the top layer and 2 inches of 5-lb memory foam on the second layer.  Casper uses 1.5 inches of artificial latex on the top of its mattress, Healthy Foundations does not use any latex (natural or man-made) in its memory foam mattress.

The Casper mattress base foam is just 5 inches of 1.8-lb. density foam.  Healthy Foundations’ base foams are 6 inches of high quality 2.3-lb. foam (higher quality and more durable).

Since Casper started in 2014 and changed its mattress design in 2016, it is difficult to know if their mattress will be durable or if they will be around to honor warranty claims.  Healthy Foundations was founded in 1994 and has been selling its memory foam online since 1998.  It is not a start-up jumping on the memory foam band wagon and has been time-test for the quality of its memory foam mattress as well as its outstanding customer service (A+ rating with the BBB since 2001).

Casper’s warranty requires you to have a sag greater than 1 inch for a warranty claim to be honored.  If you are uncomfortable and your sag is just 9/10 of an inch, you are out of luck.  Healthy Foundations does not have a minimum sag requirement in order to deny valid warranty claims.

Bottom line:  Casper is a new (2014) company with a mid-range hybrid mattress using synthetic latex and a small amount of memory foam.  The Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress is a high-end top-rated memory foam mattress that has been selling online since 1998 and is not afraid to back its products with a 365-day money back trial.
