Memory Foam Mattresses: What On Earth Is A Comfort Guarantee?

Looking for a memory foam mattress and confused by all the different guarantees?  Don’t worry, you’re not alone.  Many mattress retailers want you to be confused about their guarantees.  Let’s clear a few thing up…

Stay clear from store credits or “comfort” guarantees.  A “comfort” guarantee is just a tricky way of saying you are getting a store credit.  If you try your mattress at home and it doesn’t work for you, you can bring it back, but you do not get your money back.  You have to choose a different mattress from that same store.  Since most mattress retailers probably only have one or two mattresses that you may be interested in, you could be out of luck — no mattress that you like and out hundreds of dollars or more.

The way to ensure that you don’t lose money or get stuck with a mattress that you don’t like is to buy your mattress from a retailer that offers an extended in-home trial (180 days or more) and will give you your money back if the mattress doesn’t work for you.  The retailer may charge a fee (look for $75 or less) to help defray return shipping costs, but that cost is minimal compared to potentially being out lots of money.

At Healthy Foundations, we want you to be as informed about your bedding options as possible.  That is why we created our Mattress Buyer’s Guides – one for air beds, one for memory foam mattresses, and one for latex mattresses.  Check them out to learn everything you need to know about buying a specialty mattress.
