The innerspring mattress is still the most purchased mattress, according to Consumer Search (CS), an organization that claims to be the U.K. equivalent of Consumer Reports. CS investigates a variety of popular products. The article Mattress Reviews: Types of Mattresses lists the numerous disadvantages of innerspring mattresses (as reported by CS), as well as the advantages and disadvantages (far few than with innerspring mattresses) of memory foam mattresses and latex foam mattresses.
Memory foam mattresses are gaining popularity as more and more people learn about their comfort and durability. Although many people think you have to pay “leading brand’s” prices to get a good memory foam mattress, you can get a good memory foam mattress at about half the price of “leading brand.” Why pay for all of “leading brand’s” expensive advertising?
A memory foam mattress is temperature sensitive and uses your body’s heat to conform to your body’s own contours. This reduces pressure points and the need to “flop around” to get comfortable. Once you do change positions, the memory foam “remembers” its original shape and then gently readjusts to your new position.
