Vegan Smoothies

makes 1 good sized serving

Ingredients

1 - 1 1/4 C of fruit juice

A favorite is orange juice, but we also mix with pineapple juice, use only apple juice, or you can use any exotic combo that strikes your fancy.

1 banana

If you like your smoothies thick, then freeze the banana first. Just take off the outer skin, wrap in plastic, and stick them in a freezer bag in the freezer. Make sure you have a powerful blender before you try this - ours is 700 watts and approved by Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor.

Frozen fruit -1/4 to 1/2C, or as much as you like and that your blender can handle without burning up your blender.

Optional:

Ice - makes colder but also waters it down a bit.

Protein powder - some like it, I prefer just the fruit.

2 Tbs of flax seeds - this is a new addition to our smoothies, and we like it. Gives a bit more texture to the smoothie and we get in our daily serving of flax seed and their beneficial oil (great for your skin and one of the richest sources of the very healthy oil that is mainly found in fish -omega 3 fatty acids. A cheap way to get this cutting edge nutrient.)

Directions

Put everything in your blender and mix until smooth. If it gets a bit too thick to blend, add some more liquid. Don't make it too thick for your blender's power - my brother is on his sixth or seventh one. Go for power if you are buying one - the more watts the better.
