Memory Foam in the Freezer – Boys Will Be Boys

Memory foam in the freezer?? What on earth does that mean? It means that when you have two boys at home who are 11 and 13, they like to do science experiments and see how things work. Perhaps they didn’t believe me when I told them about the time I accidentally left my memory foam pillow in the car during freezing temperatures and took it out to find it was hard as a brick.  Perhaps they were just curious and wanted to see if memory foam is truly temperature sensitive.  Perhaps the older brother wanted to use it as a weapon on the younger one.  (He did.)  The good news is that I intercepted the memory foam pillow weapon and returned it to its rightful place — my younger son’s warm bedroom.  Problem solved, but I probably should get some more food in that spare freezer!

This “experiment” demonstrates one of the hallmarks of memory foam, its temperature sensitivity.  Memory foam is so comfortable because your body’s heat and shape soften it and allow it to slowly sink in and conform to all of your body’s curves and contours.  This make memory foam exceptionally comfortable and different than all other mattresses.  It actual customizes itself to you all the time and every single time you move.  A memory foam mattress’s temperature sensitivity is also why a money-back trial is so important when buying a memory foam mattress (or any mattress, for that matter).  Many people are surprised when the memory foam mattress they tried in the store feels very differently in their home.  There are two reasons for this:  1.)  The store beds are well broken in and therefore softer than a new one in your home.  2.)  The stores are much warmer than most people keep their home, making the memory foam softer.

So understand that the temperature sensitivity that makes memory foam comfortable to sleep on and a great frozen weapon against your brother also means that it may feel very differently in your home than it did in a store.  Make sure that no matter where you buy your memory foam mattress, or any mattress, that you have at least 90 days to try it in your own home to make sure it is right for you.  We offer our customers 365 days to try our mattress at home, but 90 days is the minimum trial that we recommend.
