Moving Around On a Memory Foam Mattress

We are starting a new series of posts answering some of the questions we’ve been getting that people are having a hard time finding answers to.

Today’s question is:

How easy is it [a memory foam mattress] to move around during the night…or for other activities?

It really depends on the type of memory foam used in making the mattress. We had this issue come up fairly often when we sold the “leading brand” of memory foam many years ago. This was because their memory foam is dense and firm at room temperature – and softens a great deal when in contact with your body (your body temperature softens the foam). So where you sleep is soft, but the foam over the rest of the bed stays firm. For some people, they felt it was difficult to roll over or move on the mattress because they would be kind of cocooned in the soft foam.

How To Sort Through All the Different Memory Foam Mattresses

On the survey we’ve been running lately, we’ve been getting a lot of questions from people confused about all the different memory foam mattresses they’ve seen advertised. A typical question was

“Are they all the same, and how much does quality change with price? There are so many brands and prices.”

My Change of Heart On Memory Foam Density

I’ve looked at dozens of memory foams over the years. In fact, before we cleaned it out I once had a whole closet that was nothing but memory foam samples. And after looking at memory foams of all sorts of densities, I always came back to that the “good stuff” had densities of at least 4 lb.

After 10 years or so of sampling memory foams, this kind of became an article of faith. If a memory foam wasn’t at least 4 lb density, I wasn’t interested in even sampling it. And this really used to put out suppliers that wanted me to carry their less expensive memory foams. But I wouldn’t budge – I only wanted to sell memory foams that I would personally use, and I just wouldn’t sleep on anything less than 4 lb memory foam. And if you look at old articles of mine that some people have published on the web, you’ll see this sentiment – if the memory foam wasn’t at least 4 lb density, I told people to avoid it.

New Person On the Phones

As things have got busier, it became apparent that we need to get a full time person just to answer your phone questions and emails. So beginning this month we have brought in Chris to man our phones. We feel lucky to have Chris – he knows our product line well and he does a great job answering people’s questions. Brian will continue to take customer support questions, but this will free him up to do some webmaster types of things and continued product development. As a small business owner, it is a bit hard to let some things go as your business grows. It wasn’t that long ago that I was doing everything – from answering the phones to doing the daily orders along with all the webmaster and business development as well. So it is a bit hard when things change, but it feels good to bring on really good people like Chris who care about our business and customers. So if you have any questions, feel free to give Chris a call at our toll free number – 800 995 3472.

Sale On Our Backordered Full, Queen and King 10″ Memory Foam Mattress

We introduced our new 10″ Memory Foam Mattress in late July, 2006 – and the response has been overwhelming. So much so that our manufacturer literally hasn’t been able to keep up. Which has put us in a strange situation of having a terrific product that is getting great reviews and not having any inventory to actually sell.

Healthy Foundations Awareded “Trusted Store” and 5 Star Rating By

Ever since we’ve been on the web (we started out in February of 1998 – hard to believe we’ve been doing business online over 8 years!), we’ve felt its important for our users to be able to rate our products and services on a third party ratings website. Part of this is that we know we like to read independent reviews before buying a product online. These customer reviews are sometimes more informative than the website selling the product. Also, we think this type of review keeps a web business accountable. If you don’t do what you say you are going to do, or your product isn’t what it should be, anyone can post a review anytime – and this review will be readable by all a website’s customers (especially ours – we link right on our page to the reviews for our web business).

Extra Bonuses on Our 10″ Memory Foam Mattress Extended Through October 31, 2006

We have extended our introductory bonus offer on our 10″ memory foam mattress – free memory foam cervical pillows and a free allergy free, water proof mattress protector – through October 31, 2006. Why did we extend the offer? Well, we just got overwhelmed by the response to our new mattress – to the point where we’ve been backordered on the Queen, King and Cal King sizes for over a month. So we thought it was only right to extend the offer till we have the mattresses back in stock and give everyone who wants to buy a chance to still get the incentives. We hope to have the Queens back in stock October 11, and the Kings and Cal Kings on October 25th. We are offering an additional incentive for those people willing to put in their order while we are waiting for our stock to arrive – a $100 American Express Gift Card. This extra Amex gift card offer is good on Queen orders through October 9, and King and Cal King orders through 18th.

New Article on Tips for First Time Piano Buyers

My friend Eben Goresko is a real artist – he both beautifully tunes and restores pianos and also is an accomplished musician – he plays a very mean “stride” style jazz piano.

I’ve been encouraging him for awhile now to put together a website to share all his knowledge and help people learn the ins and outs of buying pianos, finding good piano instruction, etc. And now he’s done it – and to kick it off I asked him to write an article on “Tips for the First Time Piano Buyer”. You will find this article at
