Armand Morin Live -- What A Disappointment

September 24, 2012

Just spent the weekend watching Armand Morin Live seminar through their live feed. I did enjoy being able to watch it at home -- I don't know that I can deal with a live internet marketing seminar any longer, the pitching is just too much.

I had hopes that Armand Morin's seminar would be a bit different since he alone would be teaching. And while that turned out to be true to an extent -- he did have a couple of people give presentations -- being a one man show didn't slow down the pitching. All told, he rammed home 9 separate pitches for internet marketing products (along with one for a charity that I did give to, the only thing I went for all weekend).

In terms of content, perhaps there was perhaps two presentations that really got into real information. And while these did give me food for thought, they still focused mainly on information marketing approaches (to Facebook advertising, etc) and I don't know how well they will translate to people doing sales of physical products on the internet like I do.

That works out to just a few hours of content over three days at best. Not a real good ratio, and so it turned out to be a waste of time for the most part. Although, if somehow the Facebook advice turns out to be helpful, it would still be worth it. I still think this is a longshot for our type of product, since I can't target any sorts of groups on Facebook -- people need a mattress when they need one, and this isn't something related to interest groups. But I can try to target based on demographics, and he did give a few good pointers on ads and trying to get costs down by getting an initial high click through rate.

Overall, though, it was largely a pitchfest that took away some hours of my life I can't get back.

I have a fascination/repulsion with the whole internet marketing world. I want to stay up to date on their latest methods since once in awhile I do find them really interesting. But the relentless pitching and selling is really is right in the tradition with snake oil salesmen.

And the Armand Morin live seminar was right there in this tradition. The last day was one long pitch fest of opportunities. Maybe that is what the get rich crowd likes, but since I wanted to learn something I was just bored.
