Comparison of Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress and Toppers to Tempurpedic ®
We often get people asking us to compare our
The Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress or our
Healthy Foundations Topper pads to Tempurpedic
®. Especially since our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress is 1/2 or so the price of the middle of the Tempurpedic mattress line, and they can save even more by keeping their current mattress and can get the comfort they are looking for by just adding one of our memory foam topper pads to their bed. People want to know how our products stack up to the gold standard in the memory foam business, the Tempurpedic
®, and whether they will come out ahead by saving money on our products or behind since they might save some money but sacrifice getting the comfort they are looking for.
And the first thing we tell people is that these are tough questions to answer - because comfort is such a subjective thing and also since we don't know the condition of their current mattress. But we will do our best on this page to give you our take on this. To do so, we've broken this page into two sections - 1) For those of you who need a new mattress, our comparison of our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress to the Tempurpedic ®, and 2) For those whose mattress is ok but just overly firm, whether adding our Memory Foam Topper Pad will give you the comfort you are looking for.
How To Tell If You Need A New Mattress?
In general, we tell people that if your current mattress is still pretty firm and supportive, with no apparent dips or compressed areas, and all you just feel that your mattress is overly firm, then our Topper Pads may do the job for you. Our Memory Foam Topper Pads do a good job of making an overly firm mattress much more comfortable.
But if your mattress isn't in good shape or getting on in years (over 3 - 5 years old), you may instead be better served by spending your money toward a new mattress rather than a topper. Many mattress manufacturers put in fairly inexpensive foams and other comfort layers that compress and break down in just a few years. That is we don't recommend adding a topper pad to mattresses much older than 3 years or so. And if your current mattress has any compressed areas or dips, a topper pad will just make these areas even more apparent. In either case, you probably come out ahead spending your money toward a new mattress rather than trying to fix your current one with a topper pad.
Need a New Mattress? How Does Our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress Stack Up To The Tempurpedic ® ?
Boy this is a tough question to answer - while both the Tempurpedic
® mattresses and our
The Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses do have memory foam on top of a base of high resiliency foam, the feels of the Tempurpedic
® foam (TEMPUR
® foam) and the foam used in our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses are very different. TEMPUR
® foam starts out firmer, and melts with your body temperature, where as the memory foam used in our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses are softer initially and aren't as slow to recover from being compressed as TEMPUR
® foam.
But this is just a dry description of the differences in these two product lines - the real question people wast to know is how the comfort of our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses stacks up to that of the Tempurpedic ® mattress. Especially since our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses are about 1/2 the price or so of the comparable mattresses of the Tempurpedic ® mattress line*. And our answer is .... we think our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses can hold their own, in terms of comfort, with any memory foam mattress out there - including the Tempurpedic ®. We felt this way when we first tested them. We had spent over 2 years of testing various memory foam mattresses before we found the Healthy Foundations 10 Inch Memory Foam Mattress, and after sleeping on them for a few nights we finally felt we had found the memory foam mattresses that had the comfort we demanded.
The response to our Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses has been even better than we could have hoped for. The feedback we've gotten from customers has been terrific. Here's a couple of reviews we've received from people to give you an idea of the type of response we've had on the Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattresses:

"I am happy thus far with my purchase and it is so far the best mattress I have slept on to date."

"Your mattress is AS Good if not Better than my Tempur-Pedic."
" Hi,
I got my Memory Foam Mattress yesterday. The first thing I have to
tell you is that I am one hard lady to impress.....I am Impressed!!!!!
The second thing I have to tell you is that I have a Tempur-pedic Mattress
that I bought a couple of years ago. I bought this one for my husband
because he just couldn't bring himself to pay $1,500.00 for the brand name.
Your mattress is AS Good if not Better than my Tempur-pedic. .... I would be more than glad to give your mattress and your company a
good review anytime.
All in all my experience with your company has been nothing but
positive. If I ever have to replace my Tempur-pedic I would not hesitate to
order from you and your company.
Thank You"

Mattress Ok, but Too Firm? A Topper is a Less Expensive Option that Works Well
If your mattress is basically ok, but just overly firm, then that is when one of our toppers can really make it much more comfortable. How does this compare to a Tempurpedic ® alternative?
Well the initial difference that most people notice is that adding a
Healthy Foundations toppers pad to your existing bed is a fraction of the cost of buying a new Tempurpedic
® mattress or Tempurpedic
® 3" overlay. Why is there such a price difference? Well, there is a bit of a reason for the price difference - the difference in density between our memory foam and Tempurpedic's
® Tempur foam. Tempurpedic's
® foam is a bit denser than our pads - 5.35 lb/cu foot density vs. our pad's 4 lb/cu ft density. This measurement of density is based on what a cube of each material would weigh were the cube was a foot in each dimension. (Note: ordinary foam pads often weigh from 1/2 to 1 pound per cubic foot, making these visco-elastic foams a truly different class of foam products.)
Since a higher density foam does utilize a bit more raw material, this accounts for a small part of the price difference between Tempurpedic ® and Healthy Foundations' topper pads. As for the rest of the price difference, the issue is whether you really get a better quality foam and sleep on Tempurpedic than on our mattress toppers? Is there such a difference in quality of these foams that the Tempurpedic ® is worth 4 times the price?
This is a very subjective question to answer, and I can't say whether any particular person would like the Tempurpedic ® foam that much more than the Healthy Foundations topper pad. I can say that we get less than a 3% return rate and lots of positive testimonials from our customers on our pads reducing pressure points and improving their sleep. For most people, our topper pad seems to be the sweet spot for these toppers - a high enough density so that you get the benefits of memory foam while still affordable, especially in comparison to a product like the Tempurpedic ® pad.
So what's the bottom line? I know people who love both types of this memory foam. They both seem to do the job in terms of reducing pressure, alleviating common back or joint pain, and allowing for a more comfortable, and deeper sleep. Since the price difference is so great, many of my customers who are simply looking for greater sleep comfort try the Healthy Foundations topper pad and find that does the trick. Other customers whose mattresses are worn out, who are bedridden (and so can benefit from a higher density memory foam), or who just enjoy the feel of the memory foam made by the Tempurpedic ® may instead choose to go with the much more expensive memory foam made by Tempurpedic ®.
