What is the Best Memory Foam Mattresss?

“What is the best memory foam mattress?”

That is a frequently asked question on the web. Of course, some of the answers you get are going to be biased, but some are not. There are some reliable third-party reviews sites that do a decent job sorting through the facts and the fiction to get down to what the best memory foam mattress is. The best known and number one of these sites is SleepLiketheDead.com. However creepy the URL may be, SLTD does do a good job with its mattress research.

Best Foam Mattress?

Sometimes we get questions that are pretty vague like, “What’s the best foam mattress?” Foam mattress could mean memory foam, natural latex foam, or even plain polyurethane foam. Usually what people mean when they ask, “What is the best foam mattress?” is one of three things: 1.) What is the best memory foam mattress? 2.) What is the best natural latex mattress? or 3.) What is the best foam mattress, natural latex or memory foam?

Memory Foam and Electric Blankets

From time to time, we get questions about the use of electric blankets and electric mattresses pads with our memory foam.

If someone would like to use an electric mattress pad with their memory foam mattress, we suggest just to turn it on for a while to warm up the bed, then turn it off. We do not recommend leaving it on all the time as it is unclear whether long term use of an electric mattress pad will harm the memory foam or not.

Watch Your Back – Preparation for Outdoor Winter Activities Prevents Injury

Tis the season for shoveling and winter sports. We thought this article from the American ChiropracticAssociation (ACA) provides great advice in preparation for these events:

“When snow, ice and frigid weather blast into town, watch out, says the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). Winter recreational activities and chores can pose problems for the outdoor enthusiast whose body is not in condition. Winter sports like skating, skiing and sledding can cause painful muscle spasms, strains or tears if you’re not in shape. Even shoveling snow the wrong way, clambering awkwardly over snow banks, slipping on sidewalks and wearing the wrong kinds of clothing can all pose the potential for spasms, strains and sprains.

Can You Use a Slatted Frame With Our Memory Foam Mattress?

We get this question quite a bit. Whether it’s a futon frame (used only with our mattress in the pulled down flat position) or a slatted platform bed (wood or metal), potential customers have asked whether these options would work with our mattress.

Slatted foundations can be appropriate as long as they have sufficient slats.  As a rule of thumb, we generally find that the slats that work well are about 3″ wide or so and about 2″ – 3″ apart.  So a queen slatted foundation or platform would end up with 12 or 13+ slats.

Fragmented Sleep and Its Effect on Health

As the wife of a career fire captain who is retiring in six months after 33 years of service, the article, The Trouble with Sleep: A hidden hazard to firefighters’ health, really resonated with me.  The health problems associated with fragmented sleep include not only problems with mental health, but an increased incidence of everything from diabetes to heart attack to stroke.  So are firefighters the only ones at risk due to their choppy sleep habits?  Unfortunately, firefighters, medical residents, and the like are not the only ones at risk these days.  Here’s why…

What Is The Mattress’ CoolMax Cover Made Of, And What Are The Benefits?

The CoolMax cover that comes on our 10″ Memory Foam Mattress s a cotton/poly cover (40% cotton/60% poly) that incorporates the CoolMax fibre — which is supposed to help wick away your body’s moisture to help you sleep cooler.

We get so few complaints about the mattress sleeping hot (1/2 of 1% or less return for it sleeping too hot), that it seems to do a good job of helping people sleep cool.

Using A Memory Foam Mattress Topper with an Adjustable Bed

We had this question the other day about using our memory foam mattress topper pad on an adjustable bed.

Question:

“Hello!

I have a special adjustable bed, and it’s a full size, extra length

My questions are:

1) Is your topper appropriate for an adjustable bed?

2) Can you cut me a special size to fit my bed?
