Memory Foam Mattresses: Just Say, “No!” to Mold

More often than I would like, I hear from sad people with some other brand of memory foam mattress who look underneath their mattress and discovered that it is covered in mold! This is an unfortunate event that can be prevented. Memory foam mattresses need air to circulate so that they can breath. If memory foam is not allowed to breath properly, mold can be the unfortunate result.

Memory Foam and Electric Blankets

From time to time, we get questions about the use of electric blankets and electric mattresses pads with our memory foam.

If someone would like to use an electric mattress pad with their memory foam mattress, we suggest just to turn it on for a while to warm up the bed, then turn it off. We do not recommend leaving it on all the time as it is unclear whether long term use of an electric mattress pad will harm the memory foam or not.

Memory Foam in the Freezer – Boys Will Be Boys

Memory foam in the freezer?? What on earth does that mean? It means that when you have two boys at home who are 11 and 13, they like to do science experiments and see how things work. Perhaps they didn’t believe me when I told them about the time I accidentally left my memory foam pillow in the car during freezing temperatures and took it out to find it was hard as a brick.  Perhaps they were just curious and wanted to see if memory foam is truly temperature sensitive.  Perhaps the older brother wanted to use it as a weapon on the younger one.  (He did.)  The good news is that I intercepted the memory foam pillow weapon and returned it to its rightful place — my younger son’s warm bedroom.  Problem solved, but I probably should get some more food in that spare freezer!

Why a Quality Memory Foam Topper is Worth the Price

I speak to many people who are looking for a memory foam topper, but want to pay a very low price. With memory foam toppers, durability and longevity is a huge factor in the price you will pay.  When I talk about price, I’m not talking about overpriced (which is the case when the price you pay is due to millions in advertising like the leading memory foam brand).  I’m talking about price that is based on the comfort, quality, and durability of the memory foam topper.

Can You Use Multiple Mattress Topper Pads on An Innerspring Mattress

Yesterday, a customer wrote and asked this memory foam mattress topper pad question:

Question:

“What would be the advantage or disadvantage in buying three of your 3″ queen size pads and putting them on top of each other on our innerspring?”

Our Answer:

We don’t recommend putting multiple pads on a mattress. If your innerspring mattress is so hard that you don’t think a 3″ memory foam mattress topper pad will do the trick, you really are better off buying a new mattress than getting 2 of our pads.

All Our Foams Are CertiPUR-US Certified And No FR Chemicals Added

It is very important to me that the foams we use in our mattresses and toppers be as safe and healthy as possible. That is why I’m happy to say that working with our manufacturers, we’ve been able to get all the foams we use to be both CertiPUR-US certified as well as no longer using any FR chemicals (chemicals that are often added to help the foams pass the fire safety regulations).

Want to be Productive? Why Being Sleep Deprived is NOT the Way to Go

At this point and time, I think that most of us know that we, as a society, are surviving on less sleep than we were even just a few years back. The proliferation of electronic devices, 24/7 email, everything coming at us on “smart” phones, and even 24/7 television has affected how much sleep we are getting.

At this point and time, I think that most of us know that we, as a society, are surviving on less sleep than we were even just a few years back.  The proliferation of electronic devices, 24/7 email, everything coming at us on “smart” phones, and even 24/7 television has affected how much sleep we are getting.  If you are “of a certain age,” you remember when most TV stations were completely off by a certain time of night.  The static that showed up once a TV station was off the air became famously scary in the 1982 movie, Poltergeist.  What is scary now is how little sleep many people are getting and how it is negatively affecting us.

Memory Foam Mattress – Why 365-Days in Your Home is the Best Trial

A few years back, writer, Cathy Alter, spent the night in a mattress store and shared her night in a Washingtonian article entitled Finding the Perfect Mattress. During her night at the mattress store, Ms. Alter spent up to 90 minutes on each mattress. This is a fun concept for an article, and better than the quick in-store trial in a well broken-in bed that most people get, but sleeping in a store in a strip mall isn’t going to cut it either.

Pain is Costing Business and Society

According to a recent study cited by PainMed.org, a significant number of people are experiencing pain that is great enough to interfere with business and society. Leading causes of this pain include headaches, back pain, and neck pain. About four in 10 Americans say pain interferes with their mood, activities, sleep, ability to do work or enjoyment of life. Two-thirds report interference with any one of these.

Memory Foam Mattress Toppers: Can a Memory Foam Mattress Topper Work for You?

A memory foam mattress topper may be just what you need to make your current mattress more comfortable without spending a lot of money.  Can it fix a mattress that is past its useful life that should be thrown away?
