Memory foam in the freezer?? What on earth does that mean? It means that when you have two boys at home who are 11 and 13, they like to do science experiments and see how things work. Perhaps they didn’t believe me when I told them about the time I accidentally left my memory foam pillow in the car during freezing temperatures and took it out to find it was hard as a brick. Perhaps they were just curious and wanted to see if memory foam is truly temperature sensitive. Perhaps the older brother wanted to use it as a weapon on the younger one. (He did.) The good news is that I intercepted the memory foam pillow weapon and returned it to its rightful place — my younger son’s warm bedroom. Problem solved, but I probably should get some more food in that spare freezer!
I speak to many people who are looking for a memory foam topper, but want to pay a very low price. With memory foam toppers, durability and longevity is a huge factor in the price you will pay. When I talk about price, I’m not talking about overpriced (which is the case when the price you pay is due to millions in advertising like the leading memory foam brand). I’m talking about price that is based on the comfort, quality, and durability of the memory foam topper.
One of the concerns people have with memory foam is its reputation for “sleeping hot.” Memory foam reacts to your body’s weight and its temperature, as well as the room temperature. Does this mean it is destined to sleep hot? Not at all!

Terms You Should Know Before You Shop for a Memory Foam Mattress
Cover – The cover or ticking is the outside of the mattress. In the case of a memory foam mattress, it is a cover rather than a sewn ticking.
We are often asked about whether our memory foam topper pads are helpful for people with specific types of pain issues. Here’s a question we got about fibromyalgia:
“I am trying to decide whether to purchase the 2″ or 3” memory foam mattress topper. I have fibromyalgia and will be placing the topper on my King Coil mattress and box springs (they are in great shape).
Perhaps you have a fairly new mattress (five years or less) that isn’t as comfortable as you’d like. Maybe it’s in good condition, but you just don’t like the way it feels. Are you destined to sleep uncomfortably or spend money replacing a relatively new bed? Not necessarily. Here’s why…
A memory foam mattress topper may be just what you need to make your current mattress more comfortable. Full Size Memory Foam Mattress Toppers points out some reasons why a memory foam topper pad may be right for you. Although a memory foam mattress topper can make a relatively new mattress more comfortable, it’s not a substitute for a new mattress if your current mattress is old and worn out. If you current mattress is more than five years old and/or has dips, sags, or lumps, a memory foam mattress pad is not going to help it. In the case of an old or worn out mattress, replacement of the mattress is the answer. In that case, skip the memory foam mattress topper and think about a new memory foam mattress.
Are you thinking about buying a memory foam mattress? Memory foam mattresses are very comfortable and very durable. Maybe you are confused by how much memory foam should be in a memory foam mattress and how much memory foam is needed for a mattress to truly be called a memory foam mattress. Some mattresses have small amounts of memory foam in them. Are these mattresses considered to be memory foam mattresses? How much memory foam is needed before a mattress is indeed a memory foam mattress?
How did I get introduced to memory foam? It was through a memory foam pillow. I was very active and having neck pain of an unknown origin. From the urging of a friend, I decided to give a memory foam pillow a try. Great decision! My neck pain left and never came back. I love my memory foam pillow so much that I take it with me when I travel.
Our question for today is:
Will a lower density foam or higher density foam be hotter to sleep on?
Boy, that is a tough question. I can’t say I have a definitive answer for you. We’ve tested a lot of memory foams, and talked with many manufacturers about this issue, but I’ve never heard that density is the issue here. Instead, I think that it is more dependant on the particular characteristics of that memory foam.
Healthy Foundations Memory Foam Mattress Topper was chosen “Best Value” by the Wall Street Journal in their article on memory foam mattress pads.
What a weekend – it started out with a bang on Friday when the Wall Street Journal ran an article on memory foam mattress topper pads and named our topper pad “Best Value”. Then I spent the weekend at an Internet Marketing Seminar while Brian got hit with the calls and emails. All in all it has been great publicity for our topper pad, and you can read the article at The ABCs of Getting Some Zs .
