Latex Mattress or Memory Foam Mattress: Which is the Best Choice?

You can frequently see the question, which is better, a latex mattress or a memory foam mattress?  This isn’t a question that can really be answered — It’s like asking a truck guy which is better Ford or Chevy?  The answer comes down to personal preference.

Can You Use a Slatted Frame With Our Memory Foam Mattress?

We get this question quite a bit. Whether it’s a futon frame (used only with our mattress in the pulled down flat position) or a slatted platform bed (wood or metal), potential customers have asked whether these options would work with our mattress.

Slatted foundations can be appropriate as long as they have sufficient slats.  As a rule of thumb, we generally find that the slats that work well are about 3″ wide or so and about 2″ – 3″ apart.  So a queen slatted foundation or platform would end up with 12 or 13+ slats.

Can You Use Multiple Mattress Topper Pads on An Innerspring Mattress

Yesterday, a customer wrote and asked this memory foam mattress topper pad question:

Question:

“What would be the advantage or disadvantage in buying three of your 3″ queen size pads and putting them on top of each other on our innerspring?”

Our Answer:

We don’t recommend putting multiple pads on a mattress. If your innerspring mattress is so hard that you don’t think a 3″ memory foam mattress topper pad will do the trick, you really are better off buying a new mattress than getting 2 of our pads.

Our Latex Mattress and Air Bed Buying Guides

Get the low down on latex mattresses and air beds with Healthy Foundations’ latex mattress and air bed buyers’ guides.

Every year we go to specialty sleep shows and check out the latest trends in the specialty sleep market. While we have concentrated on our niche, memory foam, I have spent a lot of time looking at latex mattresses and air beds as well. Both latex mattresses and air beds are rising niches in bedding, and they both have some distinctive points to offer. Latex mattresses have become very popular in Europe and are slowly gaining speed in the US. Latex offers a very resilient core to a bed, and lasts virtually forever. I like the feel of latex, and I’ve seen some beds using a latex core with memory foam on the top that are very nice. The downside of latex? Very pricey.

Why Your Workout Should Be One of Your “Top Four” Each Day

Research has shown that if your workout is not one of your top four priorities of the day, it won’t get done.  Do I believe this?  Absolutely!  I have seen it in my 30+ years as a fitness professional as well as in my own life.  If your workout or exercise time is not on your “have to do” list, it is likely to get pushed aside for other things.

Natural Latex Mattress Benefits

“I’m Already Thin… Why Should I Work Out?”

“I’m already thin… Why should I work out?”

This is one of those lines we don’t hear as much in the fitness industry as some others, but it is a question that deserves some attention.

Working out, including resistance training, cardiovascular training, and flexibility, is not just for people who wish to lose weight. Fitness training is for your health, not just your looks. Thin does not necessarily mean healthy. Research has shown that someone who is thin and unfit is actually less healthy than someone who has a few extra pounds and is fit. People who are thin and unfit can have heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. just like people who are overweight and unfit. A sound exercise program can also make your body look and feel even better.

Too Busy To Work Out? Why & How to Get Your Workout In

Everyone has the same 24 hours in each day. Amazingly, people who never have time to work out find time to eat, watch television, socialize, etc. You can spend just a few hours a week for your health, but the key is to schedule your workout time as if it is any other important appointment that cannot be canceled or skipped. It is, in fact, one of the most important appointments you can schedule for yourself. Many people have work and family obligations and neglect their health by not exercising. When you schedule your workout, don’t answer the phone, schedule something new, take on an additional commitment, etc. Research has shown that if you do not make working out one of the top four priorities in your day, you will not get it done.
